Fun With Band Logos (pt 1)

Time has come for a new Luxury Kings CD (this winter?), and the suggestion was made by Luke for a name change to go with our shift away from blues and towards an original rock sound. I'm not really for a name change, but I am willing to hear arguments. That said, I think that most band names suck, and that ours is actually clever (a Luxury King is a BED, but it sounds like a cool dude...as in "better watch out,he's a luxury king")Plus there is the whole hard consonant thing going...

..antway, here is a "ROCK" logo I came up with (dropped the THE)

Should I Buy This For Emily Waldrop?

Make you baby look like an i-pod. Is this a good thing??

Atlanta Musicians Celebrate The Music of Jimi Hendrix for Charity

Atlanta, GA August 23, 2005.

Local Atlanta musicians Kevin Sullivan (of The Stooge Brothers) and Eric Leland (of The Luxury Kings) have put together a benefit concert celebrating the life and music of Jimi Hendrix at Blind Willies in Atlanta on Sunday September 25th, 2005. Jimi Hendrix, considered the most influential electric guitarist, died at the age of 27 on September 18, 1970.

Kevin and Eric have assembled some of Atlanta’s best rock and blues artists, including The Barry Richman Band, Jermaine Rand’s Park Elevator, rdj, Jon Harris and the Sin Hounds, The Stooge Brothers and The Luxury Kings. Each band will be performing the songs of Jimi Hendrix. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Camp Twin Lakes, a camping facility in Georgia for children with serious illnesses and other special needs.

Having built upon the success of the Atlanta Tribute To Cream in December, 2004,Eric and Kevin were able to assemble this impressive lineup and a host of sponsors including 96 Rock, Summerhouse Sound Productions, Town Cryer Music, Blind Willies, bc2 Designs and Technology Atlanta Corporation (TAC) in just a matter of weeks.

“I’ve been very impressed by how easily everything came together for this event” says Eric. “The bands and sponsors were so enthusiastic and generous with their time. Everyone’s genuine excitement about this project and for Jimi Hendrix and his music has been contagious. The artists can’t wait to get out there and wail! This is a must see event if you love the electric guitar”

ipod is no longer on the fritz!

My ipod and I have had one of those weeks...

I do everything to make it happy. Nice clothes, a cool place to sleep, I rarely play crappy music. I keep it clean, recharged, speak well of it to others...then there was Saturday. I-pod decided that it did not want to play NRBQ while I was mowing the lawn.. naughty i-pod! Then there were the soppings, the shut downs, the noisy hard drive. Ipod no longer worked well with others, no longer speaking at all with my computer. Then I tried upgrading his operating system and the i-tunes system. Still no signs of cooperation. My next step was drastic...I ignored my i-pod for 4 days. Turned off, face down. No car rides, no walks by the lake..nothing! These were some dark days indeed. On Wednesday I broke down and just turned my i-pod over to see if it was ok...and miracle of miracles, my ipod was back the way it used to be. We did a quick update and then it was off to the lake...together again! Can I forget that this had happened? Can I ever trust my i-pod like I could before....tune in to find out!

(note: I am not insane)

Green Day Show

Met Manzi at Marta, had a (very)quick beer and rode to Phillips Arena. We were the oldest people there who were not chaperons for pre-teens, but what the hell? Two minutes after we got off Marta we found a guy selling two floor seats for $85. I offered him $50 and he took it. $25 a ticket for floor seats! We got about 20 feet from the stage and could see over everyone's head (it's great being tall).

Highlights of the show:

  • American Idiot > Jesus Of Suburbia> Holiday (Mini Rock Opera right at the start!)
  • We Are The Waiting
  • Longview
  • Minority
  • Wake Me Up When September Ends
  • Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
  • We Are The Champions

I'll get my pics off my cell phone and put them up soon

Pictures From Luxury Kings Show @ Meehans 8-20-05

Pictured: Richard & Angela , Kathy and Michelle, Eric (seated) and Jason.

This was one of our better shows. Still tough to get the Meehans crowd pumped up. Meehans crowd keeps thier distace from the band (OK we were LOUD!...but still!) The Long Lake crowd showed up just as we started the first song, so that was very cool. Mike and Erin French came out...may have been their first Luxury Kings show.

Highlights? Hey Joe, I've Got A Feeling, Someday After a While (by request), Find Yourself, Little Wing. Basically, if it was new or unrehearsed it stuck out in my mind.

Got back late, even though it's 8 miles away. Slept from 2:30 until noon.

Steve - thanks for the ride home.

August 9th 1995 - Jerry Garcia dies

I can't belive this was TEN years ago!

1995 - Grateful Dead singer/guitarist Jerry Garcia dies of a heart attack at a drug treatment center in San Francisco. He is 53. The Grateful Dead came out of the 1960s San Francisco counterculture scene. The band is best known for its devoted "Dead Head" fans and the Woodstock-style atmosphere of its sold-out concerts.
