Hendrix Show a HUGE Success!

We had an amazing night on Sunday at Blind Willies!

The bands were great, the crowd was huge, there were tons of new faces. Barry Richman Band's Red House and Voodoo Chile started us off so strong that I was concerned that we could only lose the momentum.

I had no reason to worry. RJD was actually to most rockin' of the night with their "Hendrixed out" Johnny B Goode (could have been the entire night's highlight).

Jermaine Rand dwarfed the stage and his strat, this dude has got to be seven feet tall! The band was funky and creative with their arrangements (especially May This Be Love and Up From The Skies). They were also about the loudest band I've heared at Willies.

So the Luxury Kings had to bring the "big guitar sound" to Willies. Jason broke out the gold strat and the FUZZ BOX for: Are You Experienced > Spanish Castle Magic > Castles Made Of Sand >Wait Till Tomorrow > Bold As Love > Catfish Blues > Evil Eye + Wicked Grin > Come On > Beginnings. It was so LOUD on stage that I didn't really even hear our set, just guitar wall. The audience must have heard something they liked: we got fantastic response.

Jon Harris & The Sin Hounds opened with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - very clever (Hendrix's performance of this song - two days after it was released by The Beatles, won him his slot at Monterrey Pop, and his first taste of the big time). Jon's slide guitar version of Crosstown Traffic was fantastic (fans LOVE his slide guitar stuff), but the highlight for me was his reggae version of Angel (my favorite Hendrix song of all time).

The final act of the night was The Stooge Brothers. Highlight was Kevin singing Foxy Lady. I hope Wayne and Garth could hear this up in Aurora! The girls went CRAZY for this song. Mark did a great job with Purple Haze as well. The night ended with Randy from RJD on guitar for Little Wing.

One other thing, this night was a tribite to the FENDER STRATOCASTER as well. Every guitarist played on the entire night. It's amazing how much personality comes out of a dude playing a strat. All five bands had AMAZING guitar players and they were all at the top of thier game.

I'll have pictures up soon, and the entire show on CD by the end of October (and hopefully a one disc "best of" for sale in some way)

There are still T-shirts from the event for sale, just $12 - contact me or Kevin.

.....now what's the NEXT tribute going to be????
