All-Star Benefit Show

Our pal Jack Parrillo was in a car wreck and has some serious bills, so the Limerick/Willie's bands are putting together a show to raise some cash.

It's our own Musik Mafia (http://www.wkrn.com/Global/story.asp?S=2903513) right here in the ATL. Seriously, these are my favorite bands in Atlanta, all on the same stage!

LUXURY KINGS @ Blind Willies - Tuesday July 5th - Wrap-up

After a fun filled weekend and my first day at my new job (AJC) I was kinda beat when I got to Willies at 8:30. 1st set was kinda rough, but after finally getting the PA to sound OK and the lights not to bake our brains, it all worked out.

Good turnout, not HUGE, but good. Played almost all of the new songs. Will get a pic from Steve French to put up (from his kick ass new camera).

Highlights:

  • I Got Loaded
  • Sometimes Salvation (1st time in front of an audience!)
  • Tramp
  • Turn My Way
  • Evil Eye + Wicked Grin
  • Cools Me To The Core
  • Yo' Sweetness (featuring Mark on harmonica)

Faces in the crowd: Michelle, Kathy, JJ, Eric Carr, Aleck (at the door), Stephanie + some guys who got to the last show as it was ending and came out for the meat of this show (a VERY good thing!)

Bass sound was fantastic - set the amp bridged and used the bridged out - tons of power at low levels and a big full sound. Of course now the Les Paul will be HUGE!!!

Next Show - July 17th - Benefit at Willies w/ an all star line-up (see next post!)

New Bass is Here!

Epiphone Les Paul Standard - I am VERY happy with it right from the start. Can't wait to play a show

Write up of Tuesday's gig is on the way

Willie Dixon's Birthday

This Date in History - July 1, 1915 - Bluesman Willie Dixon is born in Vicksburg, Miss. He is a Golden Gloves heavyweight champion in Chicago in 1936. He writes hundreds of blues songs and produces a majority of the Chicago blues records into the 1970s. His biggest pop hit is "Walking the Blues," a No. 6 song in 1955.

  • Hoochie Coochie Man
  • Evil
  • I'm Ready
  • You Shook Me
  • Mellow Down Easy
  • Pretty Thing
  • Tollin' Bells
  • Bring It On Home
  • Seventh Son
  • I Can't Quit You Baby
  • I Just Want To Make Love To You
  • Walkin' Blues
  • Backdoor Man
  • Built For Comfort
  • Bring It On Home
  • You Can't Judge A Book By It's Cover

There is NO DOUBT that Willie Dixon was the greatest blues song writer of all time - and one of the all time best song writers period!, as well as a tremendous producer and bassist. There would be no Rolling Stones, Led Zepelin, Cream, ZZ Top  without him.

PS - It's also Debbie Harry's birthday today (she's 60!!!)

Rapture.
Be pure.
Take a tour through the sewer.
Don't strain your brain.
Paint a train.
You'll be singing in the rain.
Said don't stop to the punk rock.
